Greta Gill
Greta Gill is played by Darcy Carden in the TV series A League of their Own. I fell in love with the LGBTQ+ representation in the show, it was refreshing to see such strong and unapologetically lesbian characters. As a person who identifies as Bi, this meant a lot. It helps to normalize who we are. We are not meant to be fixed or shamed, we are to be treated as human. The show deals heavily in the marginalization and discrimination of LGBTQ+ in the 1940s-1950s during the historical time of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
I chose Greta mostly because she is the closest in height and look to me. With longish reddish brown hair and a love for a striking red lip. I made the costume using Gertie’s pattern hack to her Presley Shirt and added a self drafted 3/4 circle skirt. The belt was also made using Gertie’s fabric belt tutorial. Seriously, this lady is full of tips and tricks and tutorials and knowledge.
My darling husband took the pictures early on a cold morning at a deserted baseball field. And yes, I managed to bean myself in the nose with a baseball. Please don’t judge!
