Retrofuturism is a term you very well may not know, but I assure you, it is a genre of which you are acquainted. The easiest reference point I have for you is The Jetsons<\/em>. Simply put, Retrofuturism is a retro look, feel, and description applied to the future space age. The original Star Trek<\/em> could technically fall into this category, though you\u2019re likely to ruffle more than a few feathers by doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few details on the dress. I used Vogue 1822, sewing the sleeveless version for this iteration. The dress is made of orange silk dupioni that was left over from my Charmander Robe \u00e0 la Fran\u00e7aise<\/a>. Not having enough of the orange to be remotely modest, I used the red polyester dupioni for a hem band and Peter Pan collar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The need for the contrast fabric was a surprise blessing as it allowed me to play a bit more with the design. I was able to add rather extensive satin rattail cording and various sizes of glass pearl beading to resemble rockets in a near-identical red.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only regret is the pockets. They were perfect until they weren\u2019t. No amount of pressing would get them to lay right. Unfortunately, they had to be removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
