Steampunk Meets Cosplay

The term “steampunk” (echoing the word “cyberpunk”) was coined by author K.W. Jeter in 1987 to encompass a subgenre of science fiction focusing on technology in alternative Victorianesque historical settings. In the 30 years since the origin of the moniker, steampunk has beset its retro-futuristic stylings onto creations ranging from literature to music to fashion—and particularly to cosplay.

The BadWolf Brewing Company in Manassas, Virginia provided the backdrop for a gathering of steampunk-influenced cosplayers and their designs with both original creations and takes on popular characters on display.
